Roundup: 16 pairs stand out of the preliminary round

On August 15, all the 36 preliminary matches and two "luck loser matches" of the 2007 FIVB Beach Volleyball Women's Challenger came to an end. As a result, 8 of Chinese 9 pairs, 2 Canadian pairs and one pair from Switzerland, Thailand, Brazil, Estonia and Malaysia each were qualified for the round of 16.

In this challenger, 24 pairs from 13 countries were divided into 6 groups. Each pair played three preliminary matches within 3 days. Through the preliminary round, only 5 pairs clinched 3 straight victories: Zhang Ying/Ji Linjun and Zhang Dan/Ma Yuanyuan from China, Schmocker/Forrer from Switzerland, Angela Vieira/Danielle da Conceicao Cunha Vivan from Brazil and Mari-Liis Bratuhhina Graumann/ Natalja bratuhhina from Estonia.

All those pairs have entered the semiquarter finals with 3 straight victories. Each pair showed their superior level and strength in the preliminary round. In the following matches, they will compete with each other tightly. Thus, the upcoming competition will be more intense and spectacular.

Among all the Chinese 9 pairs, only one stopped at the preliminary round. The two Chinese pairs Lin Xianling/Lin Donghe and Cao Na/Zhao Xiaolin were narrowly qualified for the semiquarter finals by seizing the last chances in the "lucky loser matches".

The challenger will enter the semiquarter finals from August 16, 8 matches will be held tomorrow. The finals will be staged on August 19.
