After the semiquarter finals on Day 4 of the 2007 FIVB Beach Volleyball Women's Challenger, eight teams from Brazil, Switzerland, Thailand and host China qualified for the round of eight tomorrow, among which four remain unbeaten.

The first pair to enter the last eight today are Schmocker/Forrer of Switzerland, who beat China's Cao Na/Zhao Xiaolin 2:1 with their consistent play. So far they have won all the four matches they played.

Angela Vieira/Danielle da Conceicao Cunha Vivan from Brazil, Schmocker/Forrer from Switzerland, Zhang Ying/Ji Linjun and Zhang Dan/Ma Yuanyuan from China. Each pair stood out of the other competitors with their superior level and strength. Therefore, they have joined the group for championship at an early time.

Top-seeded Zhang Ying/Ji Linjun of China beat teammates Lin Xianling/Lin Donghe narrowly in today's second match. However, the victory was not so convincing. Even their coach was not optimistic about their performance. As the No.1 seeds, they suffered trememdous pressure throughout the match, and they have to bring out their best if they want to win the championship.

China's Li Yang/Hu Anna was the third pair to make the top 8. The unpopular Chinese duo performed exceptionally well and defeated their powerful rivals Mari-Liis Bratuhhina Graumann and Natalja Bratuhhina of Estonia in two straight sets. Tomorrow they will meet a hot favorite pair from Brazil, Angela Vieira/Danielle da Conceicao Cunha Vivan.

Compared with other players, China's Guo Qian/Shen Rongrong were luckier to advance to the quarterfinals. After winning the first set, their Canadian rivals had to concede the following two sets due to an injury sustained by No. 1 Marie-Christine Mondor in the second set. Tomorrow they will face greater challenge from their formidable Swiss opponents.

The Brazilian pair Angela Vieira/Danielle da Conceicao Cunha Vivan continued their perfect performance. Their technical superiority and consistent play held them great promise of winning the title on August 19.

Kulna/Yupa Phokongploy, the pair from Thailand, turned out to be a dark horse among other pairs who advanced to the top 8. In the preliminaries they beat their compatriots Manerat Udomchavee/Julaluk Radarong and then a US pair Renee Smith Cleary/Jennifer Lombardi who quitted due to an injury, and while people doubted of their strength they outplayed a strong pair from China in straight sets to make into the quarterfinals.

The seventh semiquarter final match today saw China's Zhang Dan/Ma Yuanyuan pitted against Kealani Kimball/Rosalinda Masler of the United States who are superior to them both in strength and experience. After losing the first set, the Chinese pair withstood the pressure and managed to turn the tide in the second set by clinching 11 points in a row.

Today's last semiquarter final match was contested by Barbara Carson/Line Jomphe of Canada and Yue Yuan/Zhang Wenwen of China. As a result, Yue Yuan/Zhang Wenwen took an easy win of 2:0 to become the fifth Chinese pair to advanced to the top 8.
