Day 6 roundup: Vieira/Vivan faces off Yue/Zhang in final
Angela Vieira and Danielle Vivan of Brazil and China’s Yue Yuan and Zhang Wenwen outplayed their rivals respectively to cruised into the final of the 2007 FIVB Beach Volleyball Women's Challenger this morning at the Chaoyang Park.
The first semifinal witnessed the Brazilians taking on Thailand’s Kulna/Yupa Phokongploy, who beat top seeds Zhang Ying and Ji Linjun of China 2:0 in the quarterfinal yesterday. Superior in skills of serving, attacking and blocking, Angela Vieira and Danielle Vivan easily won the game 2:0 (21-9, 22-20).
The Brazilians have extended their winning streak to five games since the open of the tournament.
In the second semifinal, Chinese duo Zhang Wenwen/Yue Yuan played an emotional third set to oust Swiss pair Sarah Schmocker/Isabelle Forrer 2:1 (21-16, 18-21 and 17-15).
This was the first game the Swiss pair has lost, but that made them out of the final.
